Don Franks is a professor in sports health and fitness and chair of the Department of Kinesiology at the University of Maryland. Franks is a Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), the American Academy of Kinesiology sports health and fitness and Physical Education (AAKPE), sports health and fitness and the Research Consortium of the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation sports health and fitness and Dance (AAHPERD). He is also a former president of AAKPE sports health and fitness and the Research Consortium of AAHPERD. He was Senior Program Advisor for the President’s Council on Physical Fitness sports health and fitness and Sports in 1995, sports health and fitness and he received that group’s Distinguished Service Award the following year. He received his PhD in exercise science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Franks lives in Silver Spring, MD. Edward T. Howley is a professor of exercise science at the University of Tennessee, where he frequently has been honored for his excellence in teaching.
